I have tried several different menu choices, and have never been disappointed. Today I tried the 6" "founder's special" cheesesteak sandwich with pizza sauce. The bread was very good, and did not over-power the sandwich, which had plenty of meat, cheese, and my selected toppings (grilled onions, mushrooms, and banana peppers). The "small" fresh-cut fries were very tasty, and generously sized. The price was reasonable, the dining area was nicely done and clean, and the service was first-rate (friendly and professional). I also like the monthly special, and the e-club.

Try the fries!!! Also, they have one of the best veggie subs I've ever tried, even my carnivorous boyfriend likes it! The service is super fast, very friendly, and their menu has so many good options, so be prepared to contemplate what you want for a while- haha! My new go-to sub shop, it's definitely a step up from Subway(although maybe not as healthy :P)

Seriously one of my favourite places to eat. I first heard about Penn Station from 96.5 the Buzz and couldn't be more thankful. The people who work here are so kind and the food is too good to resist even for a vegetarian. I could not ask for a better restaurant.

Deserves 10 Stars! Are you kidding me, this is the best Sub Place in the Kansas City area. Reminds me of some of the subs that I've eaten in Buffalo, NY. I'm eating the Chicken Teriyaki sandwich which includes mushrooms and pearlized onions. Messy. It's not your typical fast food sub place so you may be waiting 5 to 10 minutes but it's worth it. I will have to limit my visits because of the calories, Although they do have some low cal items on menu. I didn't know anything about this place until I received a gift certificate from my job. I had said to myself, "Oh no, not enough Sub sandwich place!" I'm impressed.

I've been driving by this place for a while and was happy to finally get the chance to stop in. Best tasting authentic East Coast subs I've had in the Midwest! Love the fresh cut fries and so many options!

Wow, amazing and certainly worth all the hype. So nice to have a sub sandwich alternative. Super friendly staff and the subs are amazing. First trip, we had an Italian and a Grilled Artichoke. Two lemonades and split an order of fries. Can't wait to come back and try the Philly. Easy 5 stars. Don't think, just go!

I wish there were more in Kansas City! The employees were sweet, food handling could have used improvement (cashier was handling food without gloves/washing hands) but some of the best cheesesteaks ever.

I have only gotten one thing here and that's the Philly cheese steak. Why haven't I tried anything else you ask? Cause it's that good! The bread is amazing (I am sure they use it on all the other sandwiches) but when you top it with perfectly seasoned beef, cheese, mushrooms, banana peppers and spicy brown mustard (these are my choice toppings) it all is so harmonious on my palette that I can't bear to try anything new. Try it...you'll see! For side items I recommend the fresh cut fries...always served hot and cooked just right- love when I find the small crunchy ones! Also get the fresh squeezed lemonade which isn't too tart or too sweet. Then, if you lucky to find it, get your hands on a chocolate chip cookie to finish your meal. They make them in the morning and once they sell out they don't make anymore that day. Not gonna lie, we are super sad when we see the empty basket. Only hint I can offer is if you do get the spicy mustard, ask them to go light. Tend to be proud of that stuff which can be overpowering. (Unless you want some Philly with your mustard!)

Came here for lunch today for the first time, It was really good! My kids are picky eaters, as most kids are, and they even ate their sub, they had a salami and cheese sub! I had a ruben and it was good too, the sauerkraut wasn't over powering. My sister had the philly and that was really good. I think I'll get that next time I go. The meat there is really good and I like their fries as well, it's like 5 guys fries! And their lemonade is good as well The place is kind of small, I wonder what it's like for lunch but otherwise it's clean and inviting :)

Very good food. I got a Philly and I am very boring so I got meat and cheese only and normally whenever I do that, even though it's my fault for ordering so little ingredients, it is always significantly smaller but I got an 8 inch and it filled me better than a foot long at other locations. You have to get the fries when you are there too. Fresh cut and peanut oil. Very good though, I will for sure be going back

Ordered chicken teriyaki and Italian 6"subs . Chicken Teriyaki was good especially the sauce ,mushrooms and onions. Italian nice and spicy. Made to order and wait time not bad at all.

When I eat subs, I like them hot and the bread a bit toasted. Penn Station subs are delicious. Now I know nothing about authentic Philly Cheesesteaks so I'm not going to try to make any comparison. They also have chicken subs too, the Chicken Teriyaki is my favorite. I love their fresh cut fries. They're sprinkled with sea salt and they have malt vinegar available. One order is enough to share unless you're super hungry. Their fresh squeezed lemonade is also very good. Also if you're feeling indulgent, then grab one of their fresh baked cookies by the register. They've got big chunks of chocolate, nice, soft and chewy. You won't want to share it. You can take it to go or enjoy it piping hot in the dining area. We usually eat it there. The staff is friendly and helpful. They make the food quickly and fresh to order. I know this is a chain, but if you need a quick meal that doesn't feel like "fast" food this is a great option.

My go-to sub shop! My brother use to live in Indiana and he would always rave about this place. So I had a chance to try them before they came to OP. The subs are just as delicious now as they were in Indiana. Actually better, since it's down the street from my office now :) The Philly is pretty tasty, but the sub I can't ever resist is The Club. The bread is perfect, toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. The honey mustard makes it slightly sweet and the melted cheese just puts it over the top. I prefer my fries a little on the thin and crispy side, but these are pretty decent. I have to admit though, they're a little slow. Even when I've been the only one in line, it's taken a good 10-15 min for a sandwich or two. But, I don't care because it's worth it. Plus they are very friendly. I will wait for these sandwiches!!

Sandwiches to die for! I personally am a huge fan of this place. Their food is fantastic. They toast the bread, the meat and chesse is great. The cheese oozes over the bread and is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. And it is consistent every time we come. I love this place. They also have hand cut french fries never frozen. A family favorite. This is as good as it gets. Compared to Subway and Quizno's this is a Roll Royce compared to a Pinto.

I went here solely based on the Yelp reviews, but I was actually pretty disappointed. I didn't have a bad experience, but the food was mediocre. I am a big time sandwich fan, and I eat at various sandwich places often. I had the club hot, and was not impressed. The bacon was over cooked, and the sandwich was very salty. The fries were okay. I ordered the 10" and are a little more than half of it. The staff was not bad, the person I ordered my sandwich with could have been a little more friendly, but the person I checked out with was friendly. All in all, I would suggest passing this place up, and going to a Firehouse or Jimmy Johns. Much better sandwiches, and a better atmosphere.

Wow. Just wow. Being from a small town, all I ever had at my sandwich-craving disposal was Subway. Good, but gets old especially after 18 years. Then in college I was introduced to Planet Sub, who had me at hello with their perfectly toasted creations and cool vibe. But Penn Station Subs just BLEW ME AWAY. So many options! It was quite the drive for me, but after reading other reviews I was on a mission and this place was so worth it. The staff knew it was my first time in and were super friendly. The cashier recommended The Italian, which just happened to be on special. Cha-ching. I am usually pretty plain Jane with my subs, but am so glad I branched out to try this food mountain of perfection: smoked ham, hard salami, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, banana peppers, olive oil & red wine vinegar, salt & pepper, oregano, mayo on the most perfectly crunchy toasted Italian bread I've ever laid my grubby fingers on. Each bite had so many flavors and it just blended so well. The fries were also delicious and I would highly recommend them over plain ol' potato chips. I am just disappointed I ordered a regular drink and didn't realize til after I paid that you have to special order the homemade lemonade. Doesn't matter though because these cats know what they're doing and I will be back ASAP.

When I first saw Penn St, I quickly dismissed it as yet another sub shop. However, I made a visit based off a recommendation from a coworker, I was very happy to see how wrong I was. Positives: -Insanely good bread and subs. The "pizza" sub might be the best ever. -Great french fries and chocolate "chunk" cookies. -Nice variety of sandwiches and options for additions to your sandwich. Negatives: -Not a very big place, you may to get it to go if it's busy inside. Also, be prepared to wait a bit if there's a line. Penn Station is definitely a little gem in the tons of sub shops found in Johnson County. Looking at their locations map, it seems to be slowly making it's way west, so hopefully we'll see more in the KC metro.

I didn't check in to this place. Looks like I need to come back to do this (lol!). Awesome subs. Enough said. Just kidding. I ate lunch here with my friend around noon and it wasn't busy when we first came in, but it got busy real quick. I had the coupon to get a free 6 inch sub. I ordered a 6 inch Chicken Teriyaki Sub with sauteed onions and mushrooms. I didn't order any fries but did order a regular soda ($1.94 total). My friend ordered a 6 inch Philadelphia Cheesesteak Sub, small fresh-cut fries, and a regular lemonade. The Chicken Teriyaki Sub was pretty good and same with the Philadelphia Cheesesteak Sub. I should have ordered another sandwich for a to-go order; however, since this place was about 45 minutes away from me, it wouldn't be a good idea to do that. The fresh-cut fries were good as well. It's too bad this place was so far away from where I live. I will eventually make my way back here to try other subs on the menu.

Well... I walked into this establishment expecting greatness because of the reviews that it had received on yelp. However, upon arriving in the building I noticed how obnoxiously loud it was due to the large crowd of preteens that were present without proper adult supervision. Undaunted by my desire to have a good sandwich, I decided to ignore the pleasant atmosphere and get my order to go. Rather then immediately ordering at the counter, I decided to look around the place. There's really not much to it, a few tables, a soda fountain, and rest rooms located around the corner. Meandering my way back through the cluttered empty tables and the server who couldn't find the proper table for the order she was delivering (trying twice at the wrong table before finding the correct one), I made my way to the register to place my order. Before I could even start talking, the young man at the register interrupted me saying, "Just so you know, it's going to be at least 20 to 25 minutes for your order". Taken aback, I smiled at him and said never mind. I've never had a place suggest that I not order with them like that. I don't know, perhaps I should be thankful? I know I sound like an old fuddy-duddy who is just angry or unhappy all the time, but that's simply not the case. I look/ed forward to eating there. Unfortunately, I got the sense as I spoke to the gentleman upfront that this was the norm so I doubt I will try again. I would suggest you consider the timing of your first visit and exclude a Friday evening like I attempted. Perhaps some obscure Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 pm will allow them to properly prepare to serve their customers in less of a rush?

After going to the movies, we thought we would just stop in for a quick sandwich. My boys loved it! We ordered the Philly and Club with large fries, drinks and large cookies. We stopped in about 9:30 so few people there and waited on right away. Brought food out to us then the cook come out and checked on us to make sure everything tasted good!

Was in the area and decided to pick up some dinner. Easy to find and to get in their lot, restaurant was clean, staff was friendly and acknowledged us when we walked in. Easy to read menu and reasonable prices. We ordered chicken teriyaki, philly, cheesy bread and fries of course, all were good, fresh, good sized portions. Definitely will be back!

After reading all the yelp reviews, I decide to give this chain a chance. However, I was kind of disappointed. I usually go to a place 2-3 times before I do any review. First time: My husband and I went there on a Sunday afternoon (which is super dead). We both ordered the 10 inch PHILADELPHIA CHEESESTEAKS. It was hot and moist but not enough to be special. Just bunch of greasy meat heated up again and piled onto bread. The fries was old, VERY DISAPPOINTED! Second time: I came by myself on a weekday lunch. I gave it another try with a different classic sandwich. The REUBEN sandwich was much better, again who does not anything with thousand island dressing. I got a fries again, which was still soaked in oil. Maybe I just like the McDonald fries than the fresh cut fries. (or they need to change their fry oil once in a while) Overall experience: I love the sandwiches but I WISH the fries are better. However, previous reviewers are correct, Firehouse or Jimmy johns are better choices.

Family and locally owned. Great Subs, awesome food. Try there artichoke. One of my favorites. The owner of the business is very active and that makes all the difference. I always appreciate a local business where the owner takes a vested interest in making sure everything is done to perfection. in my opinion, one of the best sandwiches if compared to other sub shops. GO in and enjoy !!!!!

ALL GOOD,,,,, Nothing negative. Ordered 6' Reuben, 6' Cheese-Steak, and 6" Club, all of their SIGNATURE Items. All were delicious. They have hand-cut Fresh Fries which are Flash Fried in Peanut Oil. If you like good/great fries, you will LOVE these. Bread is crisp, chewey, and spot-on. If your looking for a warm sandwich with top quality ingredients, and some of the best fries in KC, then GO HERE.

It was ok. NOTHING SPECIAL! Average quality, very commercial, and honestly the fries were not that good. No idea why it's so well rated. There are so many other great places nearby that I won't be back. Go to Firehouse Subs instead!

Holy smokes. God has finally listened to my foodie prayers and brought Penn Station to KC. As you may be able to tell from my username, I am from Cleveland (PS is headquartered in Ohio). After living in KC for four years now, I had just about given up hope on a cheap yet super delicious hot sub place. Yesterday I just about ran into a cement wall when I thought that I spotted that Penn Station logo. I parked my car all frantically and wandered in like a Sahara traveler walking into an oasis. Half disbelief, half pure awe. You may think that I am exaggerating.... if you think so, chances are you have never eaten here and/or you enjoy eating cardboard. Penn Station is delicious. Talked to the manager who was telling me about how KCers have issues with the concept of a hot sub. Get over this issue, KC. Trust and believe mayo and/or honey mustard are good warm (there are exceptions to every rule). I'd recommend all of their subs. Their fries are delicious. Lemonade is fresh and also delicious. Hopefully KC will become fans of this yummy sub place just like they have in Ohio. I have faith in your palate, KC. So go and give this place a try. But before you go there for lunch, do yourself a favor and wear some elastic pants. You'll need them.

Sandwiches are pretty darn good but this location needs to get their act together with process. It took nearly 30 minutes to leave with my sandwich order to go. The order steps are really not that difficult but the staff seems a little rusty with efficiency. Over several trips, I've tried the teriyaki, buffalo chicken, and ham sandwiches- all were tasty although the teriyaki was a little dry (not as saucy as I would have liked). Their fresh squeezed lemonade is tasty too, and make sure to try the chocolate chunk cookies- yum!

Gotta say, ever since this place set up shop in Overland Park, it has quickly become one of my favorite sub places. Im not even a huge fan of toasted subs, but their bread is just fantastic. Service is always top notch and food is fresh. Tons of options on what type of sandwich, and sizes. Fries are really great too!

    (5)
  • Marcus W.

Great tasting sandwiches, with many options. The Philly Steak, Teriyaki, and Dagwood seem to be the favorites. You can ask for your sandwich toasted or not, but go for the toasted. The staff is helpful and friendly, ask them anything and they'll lead you in the right direction. Side options include fries and chips. The restaurant is clean, open, and bright. Make sure to try the fresh squeezed lemonade, it's tasty. And if that's not your style Penn Station offer Pepsi products and fresh brewed iced tea (sweet and non). Oh, and the fresh basked chocolate chip cookie squares are super awesome.

Support this place! My girlfriend and I went in there for a late lunch so we were a little more hungry than average. Neither of us had been here so there's always that inherent risk when trying something new that you'll leave dissatisfied. This place did not disappoint. The Philly, fries and lemonade all lived up to the hype. Generous portions, reasonable price but most of all the service is the reason I'll go back. The gentleman behind the counter, Jim was extremely kind and helpful. We'll definitely be back!

For a hot sandwich this is a great place to go. The vegetarian sandwich is sssoooo delicious and the teriyaki seasoning makes this this sandwich distinctive from any other veggie sandwich anywhere else. And fresh squeezed lemonade is tart and tasty. It's a great place for a quick delicious lunch or dinner.

Philly only an hour away from my home town I've had my fill of cheesesteaks. Although these cheesesteaks are very different from a Philly cheesesteak they are delicious!

  • J K.

The first time I went there it was unbelievably slow. 25 minutes to get a cheesesteak. The cheesesteak is pretty good however. I went back last weekend and service was better but I believe there is something wrong with their operational setup. I am no expert but I know that other cheesesteak places serve up sandwiches in less than half the time. I big disappointment, no horseradish sauce. Overall the sandwich was good.

The two keys to any good deli sandwich are excellent bread and quality meat. Penn Station East Coast Subs gets both right. Recommend the cheesesteak. Very good.

Tremendous customer service. A group of us were staying in Overland Park for a couple of weeks. Jim the owner new my name on my second visit. Fast, friendly, personal. oh, and great food! The Philly is awesome. Beware of the chocolate chip cookies! you will be addicted!!!

Love the club sandwich and Philly cheese steak. A Yankee and somewhat picky about my hoagies/ subs/ grinders. Bread is the right combo of firm enough to hold up to sauces and soft enough to make it yummy. Way better than a Subway or Goodcents. Just a darn good sub. And they gave me free fries one day. I'm a frequent flyer now.
